Good Morning BL5 – I am sad to report that Julian did NOT make the cut to become the new host of Jeopardy. Like most of you, I thought he was a sure thing. Good character builder for Julian in any case and I continue to have high hopes for him when Mayim Bialik leaves to recreate her title role in Blossom (millennials you can look this up….).
No theme this week – just topics of interest.
East West Street – On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity – By: Phillipe Sands – One of my best sources of book suggestions, Steve Halperin, recommends this book. It is an interesting memoir coupled with the origin story of the creation and persecution of genocide and crimes against humanity. Not a light a read in any way but very detailed and descriptive of the time on the personal level and the development of the law. Rather than giving my own thoughts I will quote Steve who says, ”A fantastic read for anyone interested in what lawyers are capable of doing. Surprisingly, given the topic, it’s a fascinating page turner which will resonate with lovers of intelligent non-fiction. Similar in style to Erik Larsen’s best stuff, with a very compelling personal angle (Sands’) woven in. I know for sure that you will love it.” Here is a good review from the Guardian - https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/may/22/east-west-street-origin-genocide-crimes-against-humanity-philippe-sands-review
TED Business - The Brain Boosting Benefits of Exercise | Wendy Suzuki - I have always been a firm believer that exercise is the “silver bullet” when it comes to taking care of your physical and mental well-being. I have always believed that if I exercise in the morning it will help me be a better lawyer, a better husband, a better father and a better person overall. I try to exercise every morning, and you and my family can let me know if my conclusions are right…. In this PODCAST, Wendy Suzuki validates my views and shows from a scientific perspective why this is true. Here is an excerpt from the PODCAST. “What's the most transformative thing that you can do for your brain today? Exercise! says neuroscientist Wendy Suzuki. Get inspired to go to the gym as Suzuki discusses the science of how working out boosts your focus, memory, and mood — which can make you better at your job. After the talk, Modupe explains a clever way to trick yourself into getting more exercise”: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/ted-business/id470622782?i=1000532111137
