Feldman's Faves: June 28, 2021

Good Morning Everyone – well summer is here and boy do we need it. Let’s hope the “two dose” strategy really works. I am bullish on this prospect.

This week’s theme is nothing heavy, just entertainment and sleep.

the president’s daughter – By: Bill Clinton and James Patterson – When summer arrives, mindless “trashy fiction” is appropriate. A few years ago Bill Clinton and James Patterson teamed up to write The President is Missing, which was actually quite enjoyable given the skill sets and background knowledge of the two authors (great suspense writer/great inside information about Washington and how the White House actually works). It was thriller involving a terrorist plot to destroy the infrastructure of the US (including the internet) and it was entertaining. This dynamic duo’s most recent collaboration, about another terrorist plot, is The President’s Daughter, which tells the story of the kidnapping of the recently removed partial-one-term President (he was Veep and the president died in office) and former Navy Seal, Matt Keating’s daughter, Mel. I am telling you all right now that there will be no Pulitzer’s or other similar prizes awarded to the authors of this book. But it is summertime, a time when clichés, worn plots and a simple view of the world can be just what we all need (I assume this book is being written with the goal of turning it into a movie or a Netflix series – I will call Zitzerman to confirm). This book involves conflicts within Washington (the current president was Keating’s Veep and ran against him while he was seeking his “second” term), between China and the US (bitterness resulting from the US bombing of the Chinese embassy in the former Yugoslavia the 1990s) and of course between the US and Islamic terrorists. I won’t ruin the plot but I will say a daughter gets kidnapped and many characters involved try to rescue her. Who wants to bet on if she gets saved and if so, by who????? Meditative Story Sleep Song: A Meditative Story Experience – It’s easy for me to fall asleep at night (some people who know me well say that this is because I have no conscience).
